Sleeping Portrait by the Guinea Fowls

The Guinea Fowls have begun a new art work: Sleeping Self Portraits.

We started with charcoal and moved on to using white, brown and red powder paint. I did this in the first lesson to encourage colour mixing and experimentation. So often children faced with every colour do not take the time to explore. The colours end up being flat and monotoned.

Experimentation without judgement is very important. We simply need to encourage and celebrate in front of the class those children who were brave, who tried to blend and and tone and those who did a really good job. The rest will strive to reach for it naturally.
